The United Nations (UN) has announced that it will send a mission to Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed region, for the first time in nearly 30 years. 

The mission comes as nearly 98,000 residents have been displaced since Azerbaijan’s military operation in the territory 

Armenia has called for the withdrawal of troops from the region 12. Azerbaijan has agreed to allow a group of experts from the UN to visit the Karabakh region “in a matter of days”

The UN mission will seek to assess the situation on the ground and identify the humanitarian needs for both people remaining and those who are on the move
