Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregoire have separated

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau are separating, Trudeau announced on his Instagram account on Wednesday.

After “many meaningful and difficult conversations,” Trudeau said, “We have decided to separate.”

He wrote, “As always, we will remain close friends and a loving family to our children – and we will continue everything we have built and achieved together.”

He requested that their children’s wellbeing and privacy be respected.

According to the official biography of Canada’s Prime Minister, after teaching in Vancouver for several years, Trudeau returned to Montreal in 2002 where he met Grégoire Trudeau.

“In 2002, Justin returned home to Montreal, where he met Sophie Grégoire. They married in 2005 and are now the proud parents of Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien,” it says.

According to Trudeau’s Liberal Party website, Grégoire Trudeau earned a degree in Communications from the Université de Montréal, before working in sales and advertising and later becoming a television and radio reporter.
